As for the mistakes some Chinese speculators/end-users made last year when they rushed to buy huge amount of stocks at extremely high spot prices, I think they need to learn from these expensive mistakes. You can not ask them to know that beforehand, especially, when such actions were driven by fears of having to pay a lot more later. Their actions, or to be exact, reactions, were emotional rather than rational and not carried out as planned.

Dear Mr.老汪,

I am quite aware of the fact that many annual contracts are under negotiations at the moment and China should avoid doing things to jeopardize its advantage in getting  better deals. However, the impact of these kind of takeover is quite neutral, you can come up with an impression of Chinese buyers' eagerness of getting supply or  unwillingness of paying more than necessary because they can get supply from alternative sources. Either way, you can find justification. I think the Chinese negotiators know their positions and know how to strike a better deal when the situation is in their favor.

Dear 老汪:

China has been bullied by those big miners for last few years. It is time to gain some control over these kind of resource and has some say over prices. Otherwise, most of the profit will go overseas while China still remains to be a slavery workshop of the world. It pays to pay a bit more in order to gain control.

Dear 老汪:

Thanks for your quick reply.
Perhaps the offer price was not the cheapest but the timing could not be any better. The reason is that there is quite a bit panic out there and such sentiment could go away any moment. This is a very strange human emotion, once fears overwhelmed, people would do something silly.
If China could turn around the BDI, I suppose it can also turn around the price of commodities .  I will be very surprised if the prices will not shoot up if China ends up deliver a better GPD than 6-7% growth the market widely expected this year.
