  • Russia ready to provide humanitarian aid to Eastern Ukraine — Foreign Ministry
    ****
It's a smart move by Mr. Putin, or not?
It is smart in terms of regaining the control of Ukraine, yet not smart as how much Mr.Putin would want Russia to be involved in the chaos currently unfolding in Ukraine.
Would Russia be better off to have a long term chaotic Ukraine? Clearly not. Yet would Russia gain from keeping it so, or would it lose more if otherwise? Maybe. Mr. Putin has some balanced decision to make as how to keep Ukraine off balance yet not entirely off on the ground and therefore to benefit from it.
I guess Mr. Putin will never let it go unless things start to turn around as not entirely against his favor. He might have lost some control over those rebels in eastern Ukraine as where to go and how far they should go. But he may still have the power to shut them off by pulling the entire rag off their feet when he sees fit.
By providing humanitarian aid to the rebels, he is regaining the control over them, and therefore Ukraine for now. He is a smart guy, trying to arrive at the farthest point along a very messy journey.
But he that toyth the idea of war shall taste his own blood at last.

  • Yet Brutus says he was ambitious,
And, sure, he is an honorable man.
I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause.
What cause withholds you then to mourn for him?
O judgment! Thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me.
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

    再后来,叛军要举行独立公决,普京却认为时机不对,公开反对公决,并对乌克兰临时政府的合法性给与一定程度的承认,并宣布撤军。
    再后来,就是叛军公投成功,俄国拒绝承认,叛军要求加盟俄国,俄国拒绝接受。叛军呼天天不应,求地地不理,同时被乌克兰政府军团团包围,且围而不打,把时间拖至乌克兰全国大选。
    普大帝置绝望的叛军不顾,自己跑到中国开会去了,开会期间不忘重申撤军的命令。会也没开好,两天就匆匆打包回家,坐镇莫斯科,商量乌克兰下一步的方案。
    面对普大帝对敌人的懦弱迟疑,对朋友的背信弃义,中国的普大帝粉丝们失望地泣不成声, 普神话就此烟消云散.

  • "I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him;
The evil that men do lives after them,
The good is oft interred with their bones,
So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus
Hath told you Caesar was ambitious.
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answered it..."

Crimea:
A bridge too far, a town too many,面对即将偏向欧盟(西方)的乌克兰无可奈何:

  • What's Hecuba to him or he to Hecuba
That he should weep for her? What would he do
Had he the motive and the cue for passion
That I have? He would drown the stage with tears
And cleave the general ear with horrid speech,
Make mad the guilty and appall the free,
Confound the ignorant, and amaze indeed
The very faculties of eyes and ears...
    (Hamlet, Act 2, Scene 2)

  • Kissinger: One has to ask oneself this question: He spent $60 billion on the Olympics. They had opening and closing ceremonies, trying to show Russia as a normal progressive state. So it isn't possible that he, three days later, would voluntarily start an assault on Ukraine. There is no doubt that…

The reporter: So to explain. You're saying you don't think this was a plan.  You think he reacted to events that he saw as spiraling out of his control?

Kissinger: Yes. I think at all times he wanted Ukraine in a subordinate position. And at all times, every senior Russian that I've ever met, including dissidents like Solzhenitsyn and Brodsky, looked at Ukraine as part of the Russian heritage.
*****interview on "Fareed Zakaria GPS," CNN 05/11/2014
    http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com/2014/05/10/kissinger-putin-likely-didnt-plan-to-bring-ukraine-situation-to-a-head/

Of course Mr. Putin doesn't have a plan for this.  That's why he pulled his troops back when things were going out of this control. No one invades a country without a long time preparation.
But it may also make the situation worse than if he indeed had had even a bad plan. For at this moment everyone, including Mr. Putin, is asking himself, "now what?"
That's not a right question the politicians should be asking themselves when a war is about to break out before their eyes.

  • Mr. Putin might have been "convinced that "synchronicity" is behind it all, where actions and conditions merge at the proper moment, at the proper time."
This conviction, true or false, might have both led him to the glorious victory in Crimea and set up a trap that he almost stepped in. The decision of Inaction at last, prudent as it was and might have navigated him out of a self-making disaster, has nonetheless overshadowed the glory brought to him by his Action in Crimea,
"And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action."
    (Hamlet, Act 3, Scene 1)
    In politics, perception is everything.
    2014/5/10 22:59:49
  • There's a picture showing Mr.Putin riding on a horse with a bare chest. With Crimea in his pocket, now people might wonder, what Mr.Putin would be ride on and with a bare what this time around.
